Valle Flor Restaurant: Elegance On The hill

Nestled in one of Lisbon’s hills, is a gem of a hotel, named the Pestana Palace. The building it is housed in was, literally, a palace built for the Marquis of the Valle Flor, around the beginning of the nineteenth century.

It looms large near the Belem Cultural Centre and the Jeronimos Monastery, the hotel has become a draw for locals as well as the tourist crowd, thanks to its elegant dining experience at the Valle Flor restaurant.

Overlooking a private park belonging to the hotel, Valle Flor restaurant takes you back to an elegant time, decorated with romantic frescoes, gilded figurines, and old world glamour.

The menu reflects the time when it was the private dining space of a cocoa mogul in 1907, before it turned into one of the jewels of the Lisbon restaurant scene. Items like baby snails nestled in a potato shell, or roasted quail, stuffed with white sausage and turnip greens, can be had, while drinking in the ambiance.

Setting itself further apart from its competition in the world of Lisbon restaurants, it boasts a lunch menu, a business menu, and a tasting menu that has been expanded to include no less than eight courses! The average price is between 30 and 35 Euros per person, and you can dine on anything from grilled sea bass to red partridge consommé, providing all your gourmet heart desires.
